We are a social business specialising in innovative local change by combining community engagement, participatory design, communication and behaviour change to help organisations tackle local issues and implement innovative ideas. We also provide consultancy services in strategic communication, stakeholder engagement, partnership development and digital strategy to all levels of government, not-for-profits, social enterprises and businesses. Our mission is to help engage more people in ideas, activities and causes that make a positive difference to communities, the environment and individuals.
We are committed to connecting government, industry, business, social enterprise and not-for-profits to better leverage ideas, products and services that create social change. We provide tools and advice to organisations to help them work collaboratively with others to tackle social and environmental issues.
We advocate for local change. We believe that community-based innovation and behaviour change campaigns tailored to communities can have the most impact on social and environmental issues, when supported by policy and funding.

The Social Deck is led by three Directors – Kate Bowmaker, Steven Speldewinde and Melanie Butcher – who each bring their own unique knowledge and expertise spanning communication and engagement, innovation, behaviour change, issues management, community relations, digital strategy and web design, community building, social impact design and strategy development.

With diverse backgrounds in Australian public policy, social services, health, environment community development and Indigenous affairs, our team understands the challenges facing communities. We combine our understanding of and experience in national policy and communication programs, with a community-based approach to identifying innovative solutions to local issues, developing partnerships at all levels, and implementing better ways to engage people in actions and causes for good.
